Power & Source of Big Ideas

I also powered this NanoPi Neo2 using the header rails via a barrel plug (not powering via "crap"). I have a 4A one for Rock64 same error, problem persist My other non-faulty NanoPi Neo and Neo2 are powered via "crap" all the time and it works fine, only this one is problematic. ...

Does every USB-Stick produce these errors? Do you use a USB-Hub between the devices? No USB hub connected, USB HDD or USB pen drive plugged directly to the lone USB 2.0 port available on the NanoPi Neo2, the only one just beside the Ethernet port. This is the dmesg when booting with the Toshiba pen...
How about changing powering cables and power supply? Have you tried that? Yup during the test above I used a 5.1v 2.4A PSU with 2.4A rated microUSB charging cable. Then after that I borrowed the 5.1v 3.0A PSU of one of my RPi3B+. same results. Error persist. Removing and re-plugging produces the sa...
Continuing: I've read the 2 top links guidol provided (the bottom 2 were broken links/non-existent) as per link, need to add the line options usbcore use_both_schemes=y to /etc/modprobe.d/options but as that file did not exist, I needed to create one and add that line unfortunately that didn't work,...
Thinking the HDD sata to USB3.0 case adapter was taking too much power from the USB, I tried plugging in a 16GB USB2.0 pendrive to the default USB port the full dmesg below: root@NPiN2Armb:~# dmesg [ 0.006136] CPU3: Booted secondary processor 0x0000000003 [0x410fd034] [ 0.006204] smp: Brought up 1 n...
Good Day Guidol! Thanks for your continued interest the dmesg was taken with the HDD case adapter connected to the spare USB port (from the header) this is the dmesg without any HDD connected to any USB port root@NPiN2Armb:~# dmesg [ 0.000000] CPU features: detected: Kernel page table isolation (KPT...
For those interested, this is the full dmesg of the degraded NanoPi Neo2 (running under Armbian) Hope somebody can figure out what went wrong (why USB speed degraded, both under Armbian and DietPi) root@NPiN2Armb:~# dmesg [ 0.002337] ASID allocator initialised with 32768 entries [ 0.002421] rcu: Hie...
Is a degraded nanopi neo2 really have no other "interesting and practical use" aside from its original NAS and pi-Hole use? wanted to make it a "music box" but there are no I2S DACs for NanoPi Neo available at my general area. can I do that with the on-board audio? then searched ...
As my NanoPi Neo2 No1 is now unusable as NAS (due to degraded USB transfer rates, see link below) https://www.friendlyarm.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=2321 would like to re-task that unit to do something else. Am open to suggestions on possible task I can set that unit to do (aside from pi-hol...
Am back with some more test This time just testing using hdparm on both the "defective" NanoPi Neo2 No1 and the "good" NanoPi Neo2 No2 Lets start with Armbian on NanoPi Neo2 No1: root@NPiN2ArmbNo1:~# hdparm --direct /dev/sda1 /dev/sda1: multcount = 16 (on) readonly = 0 (off) read...
Could be the SoC already? or the ethernet-cable or port of the cable? Did you swap against another port/cable and double-check if there is no double IP? The test setup uses the same CAT6 ethernet cable connected to the same port Just swapping the NanoPi Neo2 #1 to NanoPi NEo2 #2 Also tried transfer...
Thank you for your interest in my dilema. The performance fine tuning suggestion is interesting and might try to apply those sometime on my other NanoPi Neo2 As stated in my first post, my problem seem hardware related (on NanoPi Neo2 #1) as the unfavorable results were the same in both Armbian and ...
I have a peculiar problem with one of my two NanoPi Neo2 v1.0 Hardware setup: NanoPi Neo2 v1.0 (#1 and #2) NanoPi Neo2 specific heatsink 8GB microSD 5v 2.4A PSU GbE Ethernet LAN connection via CAT6 cable 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD in Orico SATA to USB3.0 case Software setup: DietPi or Armbian, both f...
from that statement it would seem

"All non-armbian users are wrong."

...well....thanks anyway....
DietPi also is able to set max freq to 1008000

I'd probably go to an OS that satisfies my requirements and has support/updates/bugfixes...
OS that cannot satisfy my requirement I will not use.

bad choice or not, its still my choice. :)
Update: Just a final test before actually giving up, I did try to install UbuntuCore from the Friendly Elec software download section and after installing checked the max CPU freq using lscpu ~# lscpu Architecture: aarch64 Byte Order: Little Endian CPU(s): 4 On-line CPU(s) list: 0-3 Thread(s) per co...
OK now I understand

Will give up the stupid idea to max out cpu freq for v1.0 :D

Hope my local supplier switches its stock to v1.1 soon....

Good day! I've had the Nanopi Neo2 v1.0 for sometime now, used for mostly for NAS solution. the v1.0 is the one being carried by my supplier here. No v1.1 yet Lately I installed armbian monitor to monitor system resources. Then I stumbled upon the min and max frequency when I checked using # cpufreq...
Thanks igorp for the link.

Will try using the recommended OS (armbian) on the nanopi neo 2 and see if it improves dramatically...
OK I will try using your officially supported OS and see if things improve...
Unofficially conceding defeat?

Maybe after 1 week and no replies to address the problem then I guess I can consider it to be official.... :(
