Also, I'd love to know how to power the board? It seems like one reviewer said the 4 pin cable isn't enough to provide the 'hat' or display board, with power and signal. Is this true?

What's the best option to connect a monitor to the Zeropi?
I have either a USB monitor, or a monitor with HDMI or VGA connection.
