I had the same problem with my NanoPi NEO. Actually, npi-config was giving the same "Unsupported by Linux-4.11.2 Kernel" error for any "advance setting" (every serial protocol). I put my SD card out. Put a new card with fresh Linux 4.11.2 Kernel image. It didn't work again. Then ...
