We launched an online car rental platform, where reliable identification was essential. We tested several solutions, and eventually settled on Trust Swiftly — precisely because of its flexibility and the ability to combine verification methods. Now specifically about
NFC identity verification. We integrated it as one of the first steps during registration, and to be honest, we did not expect it to have such an effect. The user simply opens the verification link, holds their passport (or ID card with a chip) to their phone — and the data is pulled up instantly. The system extracts all the information from the chip, including the embedded photo, which is almost impossible to fake. The best part is the automation. You don’t get a photo that you have to look at, but structured data + information about whether the document is valid. The support team breathed a sigh of relief when they saw how the number of manual checks had decreased. Of course, not everything is perfect. Yes, indeed, not everyone has biometric documents, especially among older audiences or in countries with old-style passports. Plus, on Android, some users simply don’t know where their NFC is, or it’s turned off. Therefore, it’s essential to provide alternative steps. We did it this way: first, we try NFC, and if it doesn’t work, we suggest switching to regular photo verification.
