hangs on bbot

Purchased a NanoPi M1 a while back and followed the directions to burn the image to an SD card. I downloaded the nanopi-m1-debian-sd4g-20160907.img to burn to the SD card.

The M1 is powered by the microUSB plugged into a powered USB hub, I have the kbd connected to one of the USB ports on the board.

When the SD card is inserted into the M1 and power is turned on the system never completes its boot to the system login, it hangs at different points
"[ OK ] Started LSB: Set Preliminary keymap."
Was the last thing written to the HDMI monitor before hanging.

Any ideas in the collected wisdom out there? I am not new to Linux but would not consider myself overly confident though.

Thanks
wade

You need to use the 5v / 2a power adapter
