no CPU type info

under debian srtetch 4.14 i am getting no cpu model or type info.
under ubuntu i get this
ARM
[Impl 0x41 Arch 8 Variant 0x0 Part 0xd03 Rev 3]
how do I get debian stretch to produce the type?
