Trying to use TFA9879 audio chip

I am attempting to use a TFA9879 audio driver chip with a NanoPi NEO2. I have the I2C and I2S ports enabled and can manually access registers on the TFA9879 with the I2C utilities. I also enabled the I2SMaster audio mode and can write wav files out on the I2S port, but the built-in driver seems to expect a pcm5102a chip and the clock rate is wrong for the TFA9879.
I know that drivers for the TFA9879 exist, but I can't figure out how to actually install them on my existing ubuntu install.
