Is there anything I need to do different on here:

http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/index. ... ity_Sensor

I don't have the model thats is featured on the page. I have tried to get it to work but I get an error:

root@neopi:/home/dietpi/sensor/matrix# matrix-temp_humidity
Hardware:Allwinnersun8iFamily
Revision:0000
BoardType:-1
FAHW-Lib: Fail to initPinGPIO
FAHW-Lib: Fail to initPwmGPIO
Fail to init board

Please help!

Also what is the correct pins to use??

Thanks,

Try this way:
https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo/

https://forum.armbian.com/topic/6523-us ... nterfaces/
https://forum.armbian.com/topic/5655-ar ... -proposal/
I only changed the hostname. I am using DIETPI which is basically RPI OS but minimal. I have installed the developer packages as well needed for compiling or anything else like that. When I try to read the GPIO pins with the matrix script it gives the error I listed above. I am doing this via SSH from my main system (popos).
What pins on the nanopi neo do I use specifically just for clarification since I don't have the board listed in the link I mentioned in my main post (on the wiki page).

This task is probably too advanced for "RPI OS but minimal" which is a bash script that change appearance of some 3rd party OS. Which is responsible for low level functioning and access to such libraries.

No, it will not work the way you expect, while I know it will work with Armbian since proposed IO libraries were developed on it and were designed for this hardware. If you run "RPi OS but minimal", you will most likely wasting time ...
