nano pi as serial to ethernet converter

Hiiii guys...

I want to use nano pi M1 as serial to ethernet and vice versa converter. Just recently bought nano pi M1. Please suggest which OS will be better for my application. I want to build the application using C language. And I want to run my nano pi at low frequency so that I can reduce the heat emitting by it.

I would suggest using Linux and socat.
