Increase USB Power in NanoPI M4

Hello all,
I have an external USB hard drive that required 1500mA. When connecting to NanoPI M4, it doesn't work -it is a power issue. The wiki mentions a 2A USB overcurrent protection, so it should work. What am I doing wrong?
I suspect *each* of the 4 ports has a maximum of 500mA. How can I increase the current in one of the ports?
Thanks!
