I am new to sbc and linux

I noticed the pins for the M.2 extender board are pcie v2 x2 when i bought the M.2 exstenderboard i noticed 500mb/s....
I asume both of the pcie have atleast 1 lane each
For pcie 2 data transfer for ea lane is 500 mb/s
So it would be logical that with 2 lanes a ssd would be hitting 1000 mb/s
Since it is not .Is 1lane disabeld?can it be re enabeld?whats going on here?

It can be a software problem.
