Unable to boot ... rk3399-sd-friendlydesktop-bionic-4.4

Moderators: chensy, FATechsupport

Have downloaded ...

rk3399-sd-friendlydesktop-bionic-4.4-arm64-20180921.img.zip, unzipped and then written to sd with win32diskimager ..

When I try to boot on the resulting sd card .. I see the FriendlyElec logo on the screen, then nothing. The power light is on and the green LED is flashing ..

Using the image rk3399-sd-lubuntu-desktop-xenial-armhf-20180921.img.zip, however does work ...

Is there a known issue with rk3399-sd-friendlydesktop-bionic-4.4-arm64-20180921.img.zip ? The file I download is 2,331,347,459 bytes which is correct and the resulting .img file is 7,799,999,488 bytes.

Thanks!

Pat
I cannot get rk3399-sd-friendlycore-bionic-4.4-arm64-20180921.img to boot either.

What am I missing?
Hold boot button when powering the board otherwise it will boot from onboard flash.
This is on a nanopi M4 .. no button. However, even with the eMMC out, it still won't boot from those images. I did get it to boot the armbian images from here https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-m4/

On M4 you can't boot from SD card when bootable eMMC is inserted. I was already trying to find a solution (on Neo4 but the problem is =) ... but apparently no go.

Do you miss anything that is present on stock images? Armbian is more polished but there are still some (minor) kernel issues. One annoying is that reboots sometimes doesn't work ...
Hi, sorry .. to be clear .. even if the bootable eMMC is *not* installed, I cannot get it to boot from those images. Would prefer to be using the friendlyelec images, for sure :)

FA is doing hardware design and minor board related kernel fixes while community of hackers pushes the kernel (hopefully) to the perfection. No maker has resources to fix much of the problems.

Their images are on the proof of concept level - board boots and most vital function works, but support is far from matured. They are mostly better than of other makers, but still. Luckily here also Rockchip did a good job and upstream support for RK3399 is generally good.

End user support is difficult and expensive and again no maker has resources for that.

I can't help you with stock images. I only run my own builds.
Hello

I have try all of next sequence of images

rk3399-eflasher-lubuntu-desktop-xenial-4.4-armhf-20180905.img.zip
That image load excelent. I have see message like "eMMC not found" but screen is active and visible
I don't need eMMC module because i need load from SDCard ONLY

rk3399-sd-friendlycore-bionic-4.4-arm64-20181112.img.zip
That image after booting show me black screen! but monitor is in active stage.

rk3399-sd-friendlydesktop-bionic-4.4-arm64-20181112.img.zip
That image after booting show me black screen! but monitor is in active stage.

rk3399-sd-lubuntu-desktop-xenial-4.4-armhf-20180905.img.zip
That image after booting show me black screen! but monitor is in active stage.

rk3399-sd-lubuntu-desktop-xenial-4.4-armhf-20181112.img.zip
That image after booting show me black screen! but monitor is in active stage.

But that sequence of images are excelent loaded from SDCards for another boards! but notnative NANOPI M4

Why does that happens?

Please combine and perform tests for

rk3399-sd-friendlycore-bionic-4.4-arm64-20181112.img.zip
rk3399-sd-friendlydesktop-bionic-4.4-arm64-20181112.img.zip
rk3399-sd-lubuntu-desktop-xenial-4.4-armhf-20181112.img.zip

to see is they correct loaded from SDCard for NanoPI M4?

I use Linux (not Ubuntu) to flashing images to SDCard. Standard "dd" command used for that and how I write before -- it works for another boards but not for NanoPI M4

Could you please fix that images or describe steps for Linux that will be useful?

Next sequence of "images"
rk3399-typec-friendlydesktop-bionic-4.4-arm64-20181112.tgz
rk3399-typec-lubuntu-desktop-xenial-4.4-armhf-20180905.tgz
rk3399-typec-lubuntu-desktop-xenial-4.4-armhf-20181112.tgz
contains parts/blocks/partitions and if I correct understand i can write it using Linux_Upgrade_Tool_1.27 but tool doesn't "see" device NanoPI M4

Thanx
With Best Regards
