Bricked R2S?

Moderators: chensy, FATechsupport

A case of self inflicted injury I suspect. But here goes.....After I uploaded a new image to emmc........

The board powers up and the SYS light holds solid green. LAN and WAN don't light when a cable is connected. Can't login, DHCP server doesn't show activity. Same behavior with and without an SD card inserted.

If I insert an SD-to-emmc build, the SYS led comes on and after a few seconds starts flashing quickly - maybe 30 seconds. I'm assuming it's writing the image. Then the LAN and WAN lights come on solid green and the SYS flashes slowly. Still no network activity - nada showing in the DHCP server. Even if I wait a few minutes the leds stay the same. When I power off and remove the SD, back to the previous state - solid green for the the SYS led and LAN and WAN don't light up. If I remove the SD card when still powered up, same thing.

Next I tried clearing out the EMMC and reloading the bootloader using the RKDev Tool. I'm able to get in to the device, load up the MiniBootloader and download. The ReadFlashID, the test, Chip info all work. I've tried installing the firmware from inside RKDevtool. The progress window shows the file being written. But when I unplug it all, reboot - same problem. Green solid SYS and nothing else.

I've also used the packaged emmc that is in the USB Upgrade images directory of the wiki. When I run it from RKDevTool it uploads, says life is wonderful but still the solid green and no reboot. When I power off/on, back the same behavior. nada

My guess is this is a bootloader issue someplace. But I'm now aty the limit of my competency. Maybe I just toss the board and pay another $50 and get a replacement -thought I'd see if the wise sages on this board have got a fix for me first.
Hi!

Exactly the same thing with the same output has happened to me while flashing any eflash SD-to-EMMC friendlywrt images to my R2S Plus.
I've tried to EraseAll emmc entirely using RKDevTool_v3.19_for_window accordingly to debricking instructions, but after that my R2S can't enter MASKROM mode after pressint the hardware MASK button.

Tell me please,:
1) how can I flash the latest friendlywrt images to emmc?
2) what should I do to make R2S Plus entering MASKROM mode via hardware button again?

Below are the logs of rk3328-eflasher-friendlywrt-22.03-20230524.img been flashed from 8GB sandisk SD card to eMMC:

Same issue dude. New firmware brick my R2S plus :(
All other firmware like ubuntu can flash and boot, but all *wrt.img cant, even old versions don't work.
https://cloud.mail.ru/public/gDju/LHymPALVd

try this, maybe your R2S can boot.
(R2S Plus now work again)

Hi!
Thank you for your reply!

Yes, I have successfully flashed only the most recent Debian and Ubuntu Arm64 images that were posted to FriendlyElec Google Share; however, I am still unable to flash any FriendlyWRT images. Until friendlyelec support gives me recommendations or update official images on their shares, I'm currently running Debian with Adguard DNS blocking and filtering advertisements on my R2S Plus.

P.S Still unable to enter MASKROM mode via hardware button. I've cracked my head while trying to fix it, but no luck again.
Hello.
Has anyone managed to solve this problem, or is the R2S a completely non-functional device?
