M.2 Form factor ?

Moderators: chensy, FATechsupport

Hello,

Before buying the NanoPi R5C, I would like to know :
What is the form factor to put an ssh on the M.2: 2230 or 2242?
Is it possible to use both the emmc for the system and an M.2 nvme disk to install a VM with docker, for example?

Thank you for your answers.
Regarding the M.2 form factor for SSH on the NanoPi R5S, it supports the M.2 2242 form factor. This means that you can use an M.2 SSD with the 2242 size specification. The 2242 specification indicates that the M.2 SSD is 22mm wide and 42mm long.
You can skip using the heatsink because when using SSH, it is not necessary to put the heatsink on the SSD.
The R5C form factor is 2230. E-key I think.
It'll be hard to find anything but wifi with the right key.

Wrong model, it is an R5C (not S).

Hello!

The NanoPi R5C's M.2 slot supports the 2242 form factor.

Yes, you may install a virtual machine using Docker using both the system's eMMC and an M.2 NVMe disk.
It is very strange why this information is on the official website and representatives do not respond here, strange support. In reality, more than M.2: 2230 will not fit, there is no mounting screw for the 2242 board. As a result, you can insert the 2230 board. All other board installations larger than 2230 will have a risk of damage.
