eth1 port never found on R5C

Hi, I have a nanopi r5c. No matter what, the eth1 port does not show up in ifconfig.
Using rk3568-sd-friendlywrt-23.05-20240818.img.gz

eth0 shows up via ifconfig just fine, and that gets a WAN ip address
eth1 is not displayed, and tryign to raise it says it doesn't exist

/etc/config/network mentions eth1

I have tried the stock burned img on flash, and same issue, No interface.

Tried openwrt as well, same issue.
I have similar problem. Except on FriendlyWrt WAN port (which is eth0 there) works on every boot but on other third-party systems (WAN port is eth1 there) it is not. I have tried OpenWrt and dietpi. On OpenWrt (when run from SD-card) WAN sometimes manages to initialize properly after power cycling. If it is initialized then it works normally afterwards but after a reboot it fails again. I have opened an issue on OpenWrt GitHub but seems that this problem is deeper than that. Any ideas how to fix it?
