What all needs to be done to support RK3588 on the mainline linux kernel along with drivers like for HDMI?

I see some efforts here https://gitlab.collabora.com/hardware-e ... its/rk3588 and over feature/hardware status here https://gitlab.collabora.com/hardware-e ... -status.md

I'm curious why Friendly ELEC chose to use kernel 6.1 for the latest images?

I also was interested in knowing how mainline support for the 3588 in kernel 6.8+ affects these boards - I'd love to be able to install debian with a mainline kernel on my CM3588 NAS board...

For Debian you will need to wait another year, but you can try Armbian
https://www.armbian.com/nanopct6/
Ain't complete, but this is what you can get.
