Bricked NanoPi-R6S

Moderators: chensy, FATechsupport

I installed DietPi on the eMMC on the NanoPi-R6S.

Somehow, when I was updating the passwords from the defaults to something strong, I somehow managed to copy/paste what I thought was the secure password from my password-manager. In retrospect, it would appear that I did something else in between and had something completely unknown on the clipboard.

So, now I have no idea what both the root and dietpi passwords are.

I tried booting off a multi-OS eFlasher micro-SD card based on the official downloads from the FriendlyElec Google Drive, but it defaults to booting the eMMC rather than the micro-SD card. The same thing happens with a USB drive burned with the same image.

I followed the Unbricking instructions at:

https://wiki.friendlyelec.com/wiki/inde ... FMac_Users

But nothing appears after going through the whole process of shutting down power, connecting a USB-A to USB-A cable, holding down the MASK button, connecting power, then running the `upgrade_tool LD` command.

My questions are:

* Is there a way to erase the eMMC?
* Is there a way to launch into a recovery mode where I can reset the root and other passwords?
* What else can I try?

Thanks in advance.

I’m having a similar issue with my NanoPi M6. Initially, I had no problem running ARMBIAN from an SD card, and I later installed it onto the eMMC using armbian-config. However, now my M6 refuses to boot from an SD card when I try to install an official ROM for this SBC.

I’ve already reached out to FriendlyElec's support, but unfortunately, I haven’t received any response yet. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or knows how to force the M6 to boot from an SD card again? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Has anyone experienced similar issues with their NanoPi M6 or R6S? Any tips on troubleshooting this board would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance and best regards

Thanks in advance!
Sorry to hear you're having the same problem as may. The same thing has happened to the NanoPC-T6 I also had, so I've got 2 bricked devices.

Pretty annoyed about this. No response AT ALL from FriendlyElec, despite repeated requests over multiple communications channels.

Does anybody know if there is something like QQ or Discord where we can talk directly to them?

You need to flash the device using Mask Mode.
https://wiki.friendlyelec.com/wiki/index.php/NanoPC-T6#Option_3:_Install_OS_via_USB

If the Mask Mode button isn't working, you'll need to connect through the DEBUG port using a terminal app.

In U-Boot, you can manually start Mask Mode (if the command is available) with:

Code: Select all

rockusb 0 mmc 0

Alternatively, you can erase U-Boot, which will cause Mask Mode to start automatically because the bootloader is missing, by running:

Code: Select all

mmc erase 0 4000
