Hello,
I've got this board and a pack of wd black SSDs (these were good priced at time).
Not long after I've set up everything, two out of four disk have died (just died, even would recognize them).
Well, I thought okay, maybe it's bad batch. I've sent these two for a replacement to WD, got a my replacement nice and easy.
Now only few weeks after, I've realized that another one is effectively dead - smart shows it's BAD and in read-only state.
That all makes me think that maybe (just maybe) the problem is not with the disks, but with the board.
Of course, I'm only speculating, I can't find any evidence.
Is there anyone having the same issue? How to solve it?

I have WD Black nvme's too. Working fine so far for last 2 weeks. How long before yours died?

Hi. Any Update on this? I read about drive failure with the nas board on a blog (
https://taoofmac.com/space/notes/2024/1 ... he-failure ) and now I'm a bit scared for my drives. But since the guy from the blog also had the failure with WD Blue drives, it may be a specific issue with WD Blue drives in combination with this board? Or PCIE 4.0 drives?
I'm using Samsung drives personally, but they are also PCIE 4.0 drives. So far I don't see any warning signs via smartctl, but my build is only a few days old...
I'm thankful for any additional information.
Regardless, I wish a happy New Year
Rouven

Oh no, I came across this thread just after having received my WD NVMe drives and CM3588 NAS kit. I actually came across it when trying to investigate whether I should be installing heatsinks onto the drives themselves. I don't imagine that could be the problem could it? I imagine smart tools would have given some type of temperature warning?

This has me worried because I just came across this after just purchasing this exact setup (WD drives and all). Could overheating be an issue?

Heating / bad batch / bad luck I guess. My setup is working fine for over 2 months now.
I have it running as NAS (samba server) and then boat-load of docker containers (home assistant, jellyfin and what not).
Do not, I repeat, do not use that crappy metal case which is being sold all over aliexpress. I am running mine with the top taken off. I am getting another one 3d printed where I can put an 80mm noctua on the top lid.
Overall, I am very happy with the board.

Try updating your SSD firmware from WD’s official site. Also, check if there are any BIOS updates for your board. If issues persist, consider testing the remaining drives on a different system to isolate the problem.
