Unable to get wireguard to perform handshake

I am unable to get wirguard to perform a handshake with an edgrouter 4.
I was working using the suggested config for openwrt. Does anyone know if friendlywrt works the same and openwrt for the following?

routing
wirguard
port forwarding
NAT loopback.

Also, I'm unable to get NAT loopback working.

Any help would be great.

you need to load kernel module with `modprobe wireguard`
