NanoPi Neo4 GPIO connector

Moderators: chensy, FATechsupport

Hello,

I'm struggling to find any connectors that can plug into the 1.27mm 40pin gpio header on the NanoPi Neo4. Ideally I'd like to run those pins into a breadboard, so some sort of adapter(or chain) that can get me from that header to the more standard 2.54mm pitch would be perfect. But honestly, I'm can't seem to find anything at all that can actually plug into that port, so I'd be happy with even that. Thanks!
Not sure if you found a solution, but I had the same problem and was able to find a product that adapts to a 2.54mm male header and breadboard pin spacing. See links below. While these are not made specifically for the NEO4, they definitely have some potential. The kits include pin male pin headers that can be soldered on to adapt to breadboard pin spacing. In addition to the 2x20 2.54mm male header, there is a 2nd 2x5 2.54mm male header (UEXT) included. That could cause some issues (I'm still testing), but I believe they're just additional breakout points that get some I/O pins routed to a UEXT standard connector. At this point I have only progressed to ringing out the pins to ensure there are no pins tied together via traces on the board (as with piCobbler adapter boards). So far, so good...all pins are separate.

Adapters (unclear on the exact difference...I ordered both to test)

To connect from the NEO4 GPIO1 header to the adapter, I picked up a roll of ribbon cable and some IDC connectors. I believe the GPIO1 connector on the NEO4 is made for a board-to-board connector...so it requires some "modification" (get the Xacto knife) to fit an IDC connector. The ends of the plastic shroud around the GPIO1 connector need to be opened up. The IDC connectors themselves also have a keying tab that needs to be sliced off.

Update - The "version 1" adapter ends up with pins labelled incorrectly (the 2 sides are swapped). Looks like it's because the 2 rows of the 1.27mm header are in the wrong location on the adapter board. A minor inconvenience, but if you use the version 2 adapter the pin numbering lines up properly.

So, use this one:

No issues with it so far. I'm using 3 GPIO outputs to operate an RGB led.
